“Born and raised in the Kettle Moraine area of rural Wisconsin the floral forms I use come naturally…. They are a starting point…a concrete base to expand upon. I have been committed to flower studies for over 20 years. This body of work is not flower painting in the representational or decorative sense. Each piece has a figurative element and a strong personality. I use organic and biomorphic forms to translate a sense of rhythm and balance. Light is very important, darkness….very necessary… gesturally, they are spontaneous and joyful to conceive!” (Brenda Barnum)
Screen-printing is the most painterly of the printing techniques. It allows the use of layer upon layer of color, exploiting line and mass in bold ways.
The inks can be printed as rich impastos or thin transparent glazes. The result is a print that is both vivid in hue and displays a rich tactile surface.
