JEAN BAPISTE was born on the island of Saint Lucia in 1963.
Growing up in a small fishing village, he spent a great deal of his time fishing off the village’s long wooden jetty. This gave the young boy his first glimpses of the wonderful colors and creatures that inhabited the Caribbean Sea.
Jean Bapiste began painting brilliantly colored paintings at a young age; soon visitors to the island began to notice his wonderful water colors. It was his artistic achievements that
later led him to settle in Ontario, Canada in search of a better life for his family.
Screen-printing is the most painterly of the printing techniques. It allows the use of layer upon layer of color, exploiting line and mass in bold ways.
The inks can be printed as rich impastos or thin transparent glazes. The result is a print that is both vivid in hue and displays a rich tactile surface.
